APPRENTICESHIP
A structured 4-year programme inspired by the German Dual Vocational Education and Training system. You spend 70 percent of your time doing real repairs at our workshop. You spend 30 percent in structured theory. At the end you write the South African National Trade Test and become a certified artisan for life.
Entrance Requirement: You must have completed the 6-month Master Practice Modules at Zibuke Africa before you can be accepted into this apprenticeship. There are no exceptions. Read the full requirement below.

Inspired by the German Dual VET System
The German Dual Vocational Education and Training system is one of the most respected apprenticeship models in the world. It produces highly skilled artisans who are valued globally. We have adapted this model for South Africa while keeping its core strengths.
In the German system, apprentices spend about 70 percent of their time working in a real commercial environment and 30 percent receiving theoretical instruction. We follow the same structure. You work at our workshop performing real repairs on real appliances for paying customers. You also attend structured theory sessions that build your understanding of electronics, diagnostics, and safety protocols.
The German system is overseen by the Chambers of Industry and Commerce who administer the final trade test. In our system, the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations sets the standard, and the National Trade Test is the final examination you must pass. The result is the same. You become a legally certified artisan recognised by the State.
How the 70/30 Split Works
70% Practical Work
You work at our workshop repairing real appliances that belong to paying customers. Your Master Craftsman supervises you and signs off on every repair you complete. You build real experience that prepares you for the National Trade Test.
30% Theory Instruction
You attend structured theory sessions covering electronics fundamentals, diagnostic methodology, safety regulations, and appliance-specific technical knowledge. These sessions prepare you for the written and oral components of the trade test.
RPL Portfolio Building
Every repair you complete becomes evidence in your Recognition of Prior Learning portfolio. You document each job with photos, notes, and voice recordings. This portfolio is submitted when you apply for the National Trade Test.
Workshop Based Training
You are based at our workshop where you have access to all the tools, parts, and appliances you need. You learn alongside other apprentices and under the direct supervision of experienced Master Craftsmen.
Your 4 Year Journey
Each year builds on the last. You start with supervised basic repairs and progress to independent complex diagnostics. By year 4 you are preparing for the National Trade Test and supervising new learners.
You work under close supervision on basic repairs. Stoves, microwaves, and simple electrical fault finding. You build your logbook with evidence of at least 50 repairs. You attend theory sessions on safety, tool handling, and basic electronics.
You handle common appliances with minimal supervision. Washing machines, tumble dryers, and refrigerators become your focus. You learn brazing, gas handling, and advanced diagnostics. Your logbook grows to over 150 repairs.
You tackle complex electronic systems on modern appliances. You learn to diagnose control boards, inverter systems, and networked appliances. You begin supervising year 1 apprentices under Master guidance. Your logbook exceeds 300 repairs.
You compile your final RPL portfolio for the National Trade Test application. You take mock trade tests under timed conditions. You present your diagnostic logic in oral discussions. You sit for the National Trade Test and become a certified artisan.
The National Trade Test
The National Trade Test is the final examination that qualifies you as an Electronic Appliance Repair Artisan. It is administered by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations and recognised by the State. The test has three parts.
Practical
You execute a real repair under timed conditions. The examiners assess your technique, safety compliance, and final result.
Written
You answer rigorous theoretical questions covering electronics, safety, and appliance-specific knowledge.
Oral
You defend your diagnostic logic to examiners. You explain what you found, how you diagnosed it, and why you chose your repair method.
When you pass all three parts, you receive your National Certificate and become a legally certified artisan for life. This certification is recognised throughout South Africa and opens doors to senior roles, business ownership, and international opportunities.
Accountability Culture in Your Apprenticeship
Accountability is the foundation of everything we do at Zibuke OnCall. You experience this culture from your first day in the Master Practice Modules. It does not begin when you become an apprentice. It begins when you start your training.
During the Master Practice Modules, you are taught what accountability means in a practical sense. You show up on time. You document every repair honestly. You take ownership of your mistakes. You ask for help when you need it and you help others when they need it. These habits are built into the structure of the 6-month programme.
By the time you enter the apprenticeship, accountability is already part of who you are. You do not need a separate Accountability Assessment for the apprenticeship because you have already proven yourself through the Master Practice Modules. The culture is embedded in every day of your training. It is not a test you take. It is a way you work.
This is how we ensure every apprentice who joins our programme has the discipline and honesty required to succeed. You do not learn accountability from a document. You learn it by practicing it every day for 6 months before you even apply for the apprenticeship.
What You Get as an Apprentice
R4,500 Monthly Stipend
You earn while you learn. Your stipend is adjusted for inflation every year so your income keeps pace with the cost of living.
National Trade Test Preparation
We prepare you thoroughly for all three parts of the trade test. Mock tests, portfolio compilation, and oral practice sessions.
Real Workshop Experience
You work on real appliances for real customers. Your experience is genuine and your skills are proven through actual repairs.

Certified artisans can advance to Master Craftsman, Technical Manager, Workshop Manager, and beyond. Your apprenticeship is the start of a lifelong career.
Your Complete Path to Certification
Complete the Master Practice Modules
You attend our 6-month workplace preparation programme. You learn the foundations of appliance repair. You build accountability into your work habits. You prove you are ready for the apprenticeship. This is the only way to qualify for the programme.
The Master Approves Your Transition
After you complete month 6 of the Master Practice Modules, the Master Craftsman evaluates your portfolio and your progress. If you meet the standard, you are approved to transition into the 4-year Apprenticeship Programme. This approval is based on evidence, not opinion.
You Complete the 4-Year Apprenticeship
You work 70 percent of your time at our workshop and attend 30 percent theory instruction. You build your RPL portfolio. You progress through each year with increasing independence. Your stipend grows with inflation. You prepare for the National Trade Test.
You Pass the National Trade Test
You write and pass the National Trade Test administered by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations. You become a legally certified Electronic Appliance Repair Artisan. Your certification is recognised by the State. Your career is secured for life.
